WebSite Announcement

There will be some changes regarding the CalChess website. Eric Hicks is transferring control as the web master to CalChess President Tom Langland. I wish to thank Eric for all his excellent work in creating our outstanding web site. Eric has been very busy lately with non-chess related activities including winning over $40,000 in the World Series of Poker! I look forward to working with Eric for a quick and smooth transition.

Michael Aigner will also be transferring the duties of Tournament Clearinghouse to myself as well. Michael has also done an outstanding job in that position, and I certainly thank him for his efforts.

As you can probably imagine, I will be looking for any assistance in the above tasks, and believe that if we split the responsibilities into small parts, we can share the effort amongst a group of people and it will be much easier for everyone.

Why is it that the CalChess website is still dead four months after the change in webmaster? Why is it that we have so many people involved in Bay Area scholastic chess and yet nobody is willing to contribute an hour of their time to write for the website? Why is it that the CalChess website doesn't even mention its own official championships, held recently in Stockton?

In this age, technology has become the face of Silicon Valley. Any self-respecting company or organization has a website full of the latest news. CalChess has a current tournament calendar but no reports after these tournaments are done. I know that I have contributed my part over the years, but I refuse to be the Lone Ranger. Who will step up to the bat?

Here's a toast to CalChess for 2009. Let's once again have an organization that serves the local chess community in more ways than just by running one tournament each spring.
